Avg Internet Security No Active Components Average ratng. I have a problem with my free avg 2011.it just show 'there no active components' and i. AVG Internet Security. AVG Internet Security (2016) has all the components you'd expect in a. AVG Internet Security. No active components in AVG. Try disabling the firewall or any Internet Security. This morning I got the message 'There are no active components.
AVG Protection (2. Review & Rating. Which would you rather do, identify and install the best security suite for each of your devices, or purchase a single subscription that lets you protect (and remotely manage) them all? Yeah, the second way sounds pretty good. For $5. 9. 9. 9 per year, AVG Protection lets you install AVG's security software on every single one of your Windows, Mac OS, and Android devices (but not i. OS devices). However, it faces some stiff competition from other services that protect all of your devices, or at least many devices. As a cross- platform security suite for multiple devices, AVG Protection's job is to supervise all of your security installations and ease the process of extending protection to additional devices. It does that management job well, but the protective software installed on each device just doesn't come up to the best of the competition. Zen in the Art of Security. The management console for this service is called AVG Zen, and Zen is the first thing you install. Computers & Internet Security. AVG says no active components but then a second later it goes. If you've used any other AVG products, you'll find the rectangles- and- circles interface familiar. Four rectangular panels are labeled Protection, Performance, Privacy & Identity, and Web Tuneup. A circle that's partially colored indicates that you don't have all available protection installed. A circle that's not green warns of a problem you need to fix. I installed Zen on a Windows 8. It immediately began the automated download and installation of AVG Internet Security. The circles for Protection and Privacy & Identity served as progress bars for this installation. While the install happened, Zen prompted me to create an AVG My. Account. Had I purchased the service directly rather than receiving a reviewer's license code, that account would have already been created. The online account is an essential and integral part of using AVG Protection. With the security suite installed and my account active, I still had a half- empty circle for Privacy & Identity and completely empty circles for Performance and Web Tuneup. Clicking Privacy & Identity revealed the need to install AVG's Privacy. Fix in my browser. I had a few problems with the Privacy. Fix installation, as I'll describe below. More Protection. I continued the process by sending an email link to an Android tablet that I use for testing. Clicking a link in the email took me to the installation for AVG's free Android protection. Typing in an activation code from the email upgraded that installation to the for- pay Pro edition. I did find that simply copy/pasting the activation code failed, because it was displayed as three sets of three numbers while the actual activation required an unbroken block of nine numbers. I was happier with Symantec Norton Security Premium, which didn't require entry of a separate code. When I sent the email, the Android device appeared across the top of AVG Zen, labeled Pending. Shortly after I completed the installation, the device appeared in my devices list. And here's the true power of Zen. By clicking that device, I could immediately see its status. I could even do things like launch a scan, or a malware definition update. Nice! Performance Upgrade. That did leave the Performance circle still unfilled. As with AVG Anti. Virus Free (2. 01. AVG product line, I had the option to install a one- day trial of AVG Performance Pro. You'll definitely want to take advantage of this powerful program. Just be sure to invoke it when you have time to use all of its impressive features within the trial period. Alternatively, you could opt for AVG Ultimate instead of AVG Protection. For $8. 9. 9. 9 per year, it gives you everything that's in AVG Protection, as well as AVG Performance Tune. Up on all of your Windows installations, AVG Cleaner Pro for your Android devices, and AVG Cleaner on your Macs. Windows Protection. For Windows- based systems, AVG Protection installs AVG Internet Security (2. Please read my review for full details on this product. I'll briefly summarize here. AVG Internet Security offers all of the expected security suite components except for parental control, and of course, not every user needs parental control. Independent antivirus lab results vary from good to great, and AVG did well in our hands- on malware blocking and malicious URL blocking tests. On the other hand, it turned in a mediocre score in our antiphishing test, and its elaborately configurable spam filter missed a ton of spam in testing. The firewall performed basic tasks, but not advanced tasks like network- level exploit blocking. Android Protection. As noted, extending AVG Protection to an Android device was easy. It installed the free edition of AVG Anti. Virus Security (for Android), and upgraded that installation to Pro when I filled in the supplied activation code. Please read that review for full details. I'll summarize here. The familiar rectangles- and- circles interface shows up on Android as well, with panels for Protection, Performance, Anti- Theft, and Privacy. As with the Windows- based product, I worked through all the panels to get a complete green circle, which included installing the separate AVG Cleaner for Android and the Privacy. Fix app. AVG scans your apps for malware and can optionally scan external storage. Its scan also finds and flags problems with security settings, offering instructions for correcting configuration errors. The Safe Web Surfing feature steers your browser away from malicious and fraudulent URLs. Performance features include a task killer, to save battery life by ending unnecessary tasks, as well as a battery power tracker with an option to automatically turn off power- hungry features when battery power gets low. AVG can also track your storage usage and monitor use of your data plan by apps. Many parents calm a restless child by handing over a mobile device. For this and other cases where you might share your Android, App Lock lets you lock down important apps. Just define a password and flag the apps you want protected. You can also back up your apps, wipe the device (careful!), or wipe specific data categories. Anti- theft is probably more important than antivirus for mobile devices, and AVG covers the bases. You can use the online console or coded text messages to remotely locate, lock, or wipe the device, or trigger a loud alarm. If a thief removes your SIM card, AVG locks down the device. And three failed unlock attempts trigger the Camera Trap, which emails you a photo of the perp. PCMag's Max Eddy lauded the Android product for its range of features, but dinged it for slow scans, an insecure lockscreen, and some configuration problems. Note that Norton Security and Antivirus is an Editors' Choice for Android antivirus. Mac Protection. AVG Anti. Virus (for Mac) is a free product. You could download and install it without any connection to AVG Protection, but then you'd miss out on the remote- control power of AVG Zen. This free, simple product offers protection against viruses and other types of malware. It scans on demand and in real time. To make sure your other devices don't get infected by way of the Mac, it looks for PC and Android malware as well. And of course you'll find the user interface familiar. Keep those circles green! Norton gives Mac users rather more in the way of features. It includes a firewall, a vulnerability scanner, and password protection for files, among other things. Mac protection in Mc. Afee Live. Safe (2. Web reputation reporting. Privacy. Fix. As noted, I had some trouble getting the Privacy. Fix component installed. To start, it's not compatible with Internet Explorer, so I switched my default browser to Firefox and tried again. Firefox flagged it as an unverified add- on, and when I installed regardless, it didn't enable the add- on. In the Add- Ons Manager, Firefox reported again that Privacy. Fix could not be verified, and left me only the choice to disable or remove it. I switched to Chrome as my default browser and managed a successful install. Privacy. Fix is available separately as a free add- on for Chrome and Firefox. You can also install the AVG Privacy. Fix for i. OS and Android. I prefer the browser- based edition, because it has room for plenty of information. Privacy. Fix helps configure Google, Facebook, Twitter, and Linked. In for appropriate privacy. It can also actively block ad networks from tracking your Web activity. And it includes interesting stats, things like how much revenue Google could earn each year from my searches. AVG advises disabling automatic reporting of your location to Twitter, and disabling the option for others to tag you in photos. I'm not sure disabling the ability for people to find your Twitter handle from your email is smart; you want people to see your tweets, right? But I definitely favor the tool that helps you review and possibly revoke apps that you've allowed to access your Twitter account. Similar features help you tighten up your other social media accounts. Facebook users are encouraged to disable automatic face matching and enable tag preview, for example. Preventing Google+ from using your comments in ads is another hot tip. You probably do want people to find you on Liked. In, but it's probably a good idea to review the apps that have access to your account. This is definitely a useful privacy tool, but I can't really count it as a . Anybody can install and use it for free. Doesn't Measure Up. It's great that AVG Protection covers all of your Windows, Mac OS, and Android devices for $5. However, its protection doesn't measure up to the competition. Mc. Afee Live. Safe admittedly costs more, at $8. That same price gets you protection for 1. Symantec Norton Security Premium, and for most people 1. Both Symantec and Mc. Afee come with award- winning antivirus protection. Both offer password management as part of your subscription. With Norton, you get a premium parental control system and 2. GB of hosted online backup.
